Ryoma

Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida deliver compelling performances in the 10DANCE live-action film, successfully translating the intensity and nuance of the manga into a cinematic experience. Takeuchi portrays Shinya Suzuki, the passionate Latin dance champion, while Machida embodies Shinya Sugiki, the disciplined Standard Ballroom champion. Their portrayals effectively highlight the contrast in their characters’ personalities—Suzuki’s free-spirited intensity versus Sugiki’s restrained mastery—which serves as the emotional and competitive backbone of the film.

Both actors underwent extensive dance training, with Takeuchi preparing for over a year despite having no prior professional dance experience, and Machida leveraging his previous dance background to master his character’s precision and control. Critics note that their chemistry is palpable; the evolution of their relationship—from rivalry to mutual respect and eventual romantic connection—is convincingly conveyed not just through dialogue, but through body language, subtle gestures, and, most importantly, through the authenticity of their dance routines.

The reviews emphasize that the actors’ performances go beyond technical skill. The audience can sense the internal conflicts, personal growth, and vulnerability of their characters. Takeuchi’s expressive passion captures Suzuki's emotional vulnerability and desire, while Machida’s controlled precision communicates Sugiki’s discipline and eventual openness to trust and connection. Their physical performances reflect the narrative of competition and intimacy simultaneously, making their dance sequences both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

In summary, Takeuchi and Machida excel not only as dancers but as actors who convey the subtleties of rivalry, respect, and romance. Their dedication to mastering complex choreography and embodying the psychological depth of their characters elevates 10DANCE, creating a performance that is technically impressive, emotionally engaging, and true to the spirit of the original manga.
